Bahay Aruga, A Home Away From Home

For our first Corporate Social Responsibility Activity for the year, we decided to help Bahay Aruga - A Pediatric Cancer patients half-way house located at 1131 San Marcelino St. Ermita, Manila. We have no idea that such institution exists until we accidentally passed by the area last December 2015 while we are doing our Red Bags Campaign.

Established last January 2014 by its President and Founder Mayette Bonilla, Bahay Aruga aims to provide free accommodation to Pediatric Cancer outpatients coming from outside Metro Manila undergoing chemotherapy at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH).

From the overwhelming number of volunteers and donations of our fellow officemates, we were able to spend the day with the kids and their parents by facilitating some games such as paper clip relay, puzzle game, follow me art and a coloring activity. We donated a mini refrigerator , hot and cold water dispenser, clothes, children's books as well as their much-needed medicines. We also gave each kid a loot bag that contains pillow, face mask, toys, fruits and Yakult.

If you are thinking of donating or planning to make an outreach program, I hope you can check out Bahay Aruga.
