Araneta Center Lights the Giant Christmas Tree

Christmas feels! This came to my mind when I saw the giant Christmas at the Gateway Food Park before it was light up last November 4.  The traditional Giant Tree lighting brought to us yearly by Araneta Center signals the start of Christmas.  I bet you agree. This much-anticipated Giant Tree Lighting is now in its 35th year! Imagine that!
Here are some interesting facts you need to know about the Giant Christmas Tree
The Tree is 100 feet tall.
Oh yeah, its 100 feet tall and not that easy to assemble. It usually takes two months to complete. Installation begins as early as September with people working on it day and night to make it ready in time for tree lighting in November.

The Tree is made to resemble a real pine tree.
This is painstakingly assembled as every branch is installed piece by piece. All branches are covered in pine garlands to look just like evergreen coniferous trees.
The Tree was made of straw during its yore days.
Back in the 80’s, the tree used to be small. But now, it is sturdy and tall made with garlands and elaborate ornaments that make for a perfectly decorated Christmas tree, modern but still with the hint of a classic.

The Tree’s home was used to be the Coliseum Green Gate.
In 1985, when Fiesta Carnival was still open, the Christmas tree greeted shoppers and concert goers at the Big Dome, where it was originally placed. Now it’s a spectacle in its own space at the Gateway Food Park.
The Giant Tree is in its most spectacular at night.
The tree shines brightly at night, thanks to the 1500 incandescent bulbs that adorn it from to bottom. It constantly reminds every one of the spirit of Christmas.

Visit the Gateway Food Park at the Araneta Center to see the Giant Christmas Tree.
